Moon Duo was formed by Ripley Johnson of Wooden Shjips and Sanae Yamada in San Francisco in 2009. Inspired initially by the legendary duo of John Coltrane and Rashied Ali, Moon Duo counts such variant groups as Silver Apples, Royal Trux, Moolah, Suicide, and Cluster as touchstones. Utilizing primarily guitar, keyboards, and vocals, the Duo plays space against form to create a primeval sound experience. After a debut 12" single on Sick Thirst, the group released the acclaimed Killing Time EP on Sacred Bones. The followup LP "Escape" on Woodsist, out Feb 16, marks the fullest realization yet of the group's sound.

Moon Duo will embark on a West Coast US tour in February, then head down to Austin in March for the SXSW music festival.

"As with any great EP, (Moon Duo) leaves you aching for more as the blurred visions of the A-side peak with "Speed" and then give way to slower mindscapes on the flip that burn low and practically beg to pick back up into a fevered beat." - Raven Sings The Blues, 2009

"Ripley Johnson from Wooden Shjips teams up with Sanae Yamada to create Moon Duo, and births a sorta Kraut-inspired (the motorik Neu!-beats especially) psych record that blows hundreds of stoner bands out of the water and back into their parents' basements. Best new record in a long, long while."
- Andreas Knutsen, Other Music 2009

"If you like your goth music dignified and spooky like Death in June, then you should come over and weíll have a little goth-together where we have some beers and turn off the lights and listen to Moon Duo." - Vice Magazine, Nov 2009

Since pitching up at Corsica Studios last September, Ekstravaganza has made quite an impact on our fair city hosting some of the biggest names from the worlds of cosmic disco, leftfield house and techno, such as Lindstrom, Chateau Flight and Bjorn Torske, alongside resident DJ Prins Thomas.

Now with the sun shining down on London and the air thick with the drone of pollen drunk bumblebees, what better time is there to contemplate the hopefully long-hot summer ahead and put a big fat mark in your diary for the Ekstravaganza Summer Party.

For this summer special, we will be throwing the doors open early for early evening cocktails, BBQ and DJ sets from Japan’s Dubby and Discossession crew in the courtyard. Then as the sun sets, the fun and games indoors begin with another lineup of internationally acclaimed DJs and producers hand picked by Prins Thomas himself.

In the main room we have Discossession’s Jonny Nash warming things up for one of Canada’s most acclaimed producers The Mole. With releases on labels such as Kompakt, Wagon Repair and of course Full Pupp, The Mole is sure to have the main room jumping before he hands over to Prins Thomas.

In room 2 Hardway Brother’s Sean Johnston, a veteran of labels as diverse and brilliant as Sabres of Paradise and History Clock lines up against Parisian Ivan Smagghe, former member of the genre defining Blackstrobe and one of the most influential DJs of the past decade.

So that’s it cocktails, BBQ, and the finest cosmic disco, techno, house and sun kissed Balearic beats London has to offer. Elephant and Castle may be lacking golden beaches and warm seas of Ibiza but come on, is there anywhere you’d rather be tonight?*

(*the answer’s no just in case you were wondering)
