Following the success of last summer’s sell-out Raw Power Festival we bring you a showcase of the very finest cutting edge talent out there today.
The event features four acts that really caught the crowds’ imagination at last year’s festival. Four bands that left peopl...e absolutely shocked that the majority had never heard of them before. Four acts whose live performances are a force to be reckoned with and are must sees whilst they’re still as close to the edit as possible. That’s Raw Power…
Artrocker described this summer’s festival as ‘‘a well curated mix of underground sounds. ’’
Clash said ‘‘in an age were festival ticket prices are flying into the stratosphere it’s nice to see something as home grown as next months Raw Power festival come out of the blue. Promising real substance and style… All efforts have been made this time around, bands dragged from as far as Japan to deliver their own twisted noise for the lucky few. Being a non-profit organisation insures the art comes first and not the business, so expect a real and sadly now near extinct D.I.Y festival vibe. As they say themselves ‘It’s what Corsica Studios is all about, not holding onto that love – just giving it out!’’’
International Review said that ‘‘unlike other musical events that like to market themselves as a bit leftfield, Raw Power felt genuinely alternative with a welcome disregard for corporate sponsorship and an obvious passion for new music… it certainly rejuvenated my faith in modern music.’’
The event features cutting edges:
Black Daniel
Brothers Luke and Lamik2000 from London and Craig Louis Higgins Jnr from New York makeup the core of Black Daniel. Meeting for the first time in Manhattan on a dancefloor of a lower east side disco, they quickly discovered a mutual love of animal tranquilisers and long walks in the rain. Some would say forming a band seemed like the logical progression, but it took a tour of the states with the brothers masquerading as DJs and C.LH. Jnr doing his own special brand of tour management before the inevitable finally happened. Sometimes something just feels right. This wasn’t one of those times but they did it anyway.
Rosie Allabarton from Glasswerk.co.uk wrote; "Black Daniel are melodically assessable and commercially viable, whilst at the same time retaining an off-kilter sound, making the music pleasantly leftfield without being completely alien to the listener".
H-Hawkline
Having been a regular playing partner of Cate Le Bon, various Gorky's Zygotic Mynci members and Gruff Rhys, H-Hawkline recently put out The Strange Uses of Ox Gall album. You won’t find many recordings online that represent the magic and madness that’s created during live performance, but the fact that Kliph Scurlock of Flaming Lips tweeted that he had the album on repeat should be reassuring enough.
Snapped Ankles
A new band from members of SchwaB, the band that rose to fame with their song about the Hackney Mole Man. Find their new and old tracks online today. They’ll be playing a little SchwaB and lots of their great new stuff too.
Teta Mona
Another new band formed from members of cult band Screaming Tea Party and No Cars. They bring a blend of rock, punk, psych pop that’ll make you bop.
