PART CHIMP

Euphoric noise rockers Part Chimp return this year with Thriller, their third studio album, released on 21st September 2009. They are just about to embark on a UK and European tour and Baba Yaga’s Hut has invited them to host their end of tour show at Corsica Studios on Sunday September 27th.

Signed to Mogwai’s Rock Action label, the Camberwell crew have recently recruited bassist Tracy Bellaries (formerly of Ikara Colt, Mystery Meat & Soulbossa) to add even more texture to their dense, pervading noise that doesn’t betray their roots as a traditional rock band. Fans of everyone from Black Sabbath and MC5 to TAD, Sonic Youth, The Melvins and Harvey Milk stand to be impressed by Thriller’s suffocating but liberating vibe that sounds brain-shakingly loud regardless where the volume dial is turned on your stereo.

Imagine a primordial swamp of pre-grunge British noise / rock, when Britain pre-empted grunge…believe it, it is true…flannel shirts? Pah….we’re talking skinny faded black jeans with knees worn out,  grubby t-shirts with crap sloganeering, and knackered shitkicking boots….

A band with a definite history, Part Chimp were formed following the dissolution of cult underground rockers Ligament by vocalist and guitarist Tim Cedar and drummer John Hamilton adding Iain Hinchliffe, purloined from legendary jock noise outfit Sawyer. Since their inception in 2000, the Chimp have built up a reputation as a formidable live act, blowing audiences away with a mix of sonic belligerence and unashamed rock ‘n’ roll showmanship.

Part Chimp bring the noise (rock) in 2009, and its good to know that their amps are now charged up to 13.

ALEXANDER TUCKER

Alexander Tucker is an English musician from Kent who writes, records and performs alone and in collaboration with a varied array of artists including work with Stephen O'Malley of Sunn O))) & Khanate on his Ginnungagap side project, and in 2008 as Stephen O'Malley & Alexander Tucker Duo. His first musical position was singing in hardcore band Suction in the early 1990s, who according to Tucker "played noisy adolescent punk with leanings towards Swans and Fugazi." His next job was as vocalist of post-rock hardcore 5-piece Unhome who released one album "Short History of Houses" (Unlabel) and a split single with Papa M. Unhome split in late 1999 and Tucker went on to tour the UK with Detroit space-rockers Fuxa, playing synths.

Tucker had meanwhile been developing his interest in improvisation using detuned guitars, tape loops, mini disc player and fx pedals. In early 2000 he recorded a solo self-titled album of acoustic finger-picking, experimental electronics, field recordings and spooked vocals, which was picked up by Tom Greenwood of Jackie-O-Motherfucker and released on his U-Sound Archives label. This style was refined in his live performances. Further years of writing and recording led to an increase in interest and a new record deal with the All Tomorrow's Parties affiliated ATP Recordings label, for whom he released Old Fog in 2005.

Other collaborations have included providing the soundtrack to Lali Chetwynd's performance piece at Tate Britain and playing with JOMF, Duke Garwood, Little Wet Horse and more recently with Daniel O'Sullivan and Dave Smith of Guapo under The Stargazers Assistant and Grumbling Fur monikers. The depth of genres covered by Tucker's work was also noted in Chris Parkin's review for Time Out: " Tucker’s astonishing second album is haunted by John Fahey’s mystical guitar style, but Tucker reinterprets and paints over any old influence with a dense and doomy mix of detuned guitars, looped drones and warped harmonies. It’s the equivalent of dubstep for folk traditionalists." Tucker is also a visual artist, creating artwork for all of his album covers and side projects, including ongoing drawings and comic artwork for Sturgeon White Moss (White Moss Press) and an album cover for Nordic doom-master Wolfmangler.

HAG

Was spawned via a Swede/Hungarian Rhythm section delving into a sea off riffs. Soon it was realized that they needed a third party to complete the alliance. Their eyes turned to Southeast England. Wowed by its boyish charms and imperial wit, it was decided this was the missing link. After a lot of badgering, physical threats and blackmail Southeast England saw the light and signed up.The three piece was complete and having just completed their first recordings their future will soon be history www.myspace.com/hagnoise
