SWITCH 032 // GALA After Party
We’ll spare you all mentions of the dreaded ‘c-word’ – you know why we’ve been away. The good news is, Switch is back in a big way. We’re teaming up with Gala Festival as their official Friday after party. Plus it’s our debut event at Elephant & Castle institution, Corsica Studios. You can expect some of the heaviest hitters across the full spectrum of club sounds.
First up, we’ve got co-founder of one of London’s most influential nights, Boxed. A man who has helped shape the sound of grime, Mr. Mitch has been flipping the conventions of the genre for over a decade – taking inspiration from everything from dancehall to RnB to ambient. This commitment to experimentalism is something you’re bound to see on the night.
He’ll be joined by Cooly G, an artist who manages to turn ‘dark’ and ‘funky’ from contradictory to complementary terms – and this is why she perfectly encapsulates the Hyperdub signature sound. Her percussion-absorbed, propulsive instrumentals underneath her own sultry vocals have made her somewhat of an enigma since her 2009 release ‘Love Dub/Narst’.
After the release of the hard ‘Dem Nah Want It’ earlier this year, we’ll also be joined by Kouslin. Kouslin is only a few releases deep, yet making tidal waves on the scene. He might be a newcomer, but he’s going to make a dent in the space-time continuum.
We’ve also got Toumba – who mixes, blends and tinges Jordanian folk sounds with footwork, club and juke. His 2020 release ‘Sabah Fahkri/Tidalall’ is intensely pulsating and driven, without neglecting melody. If you keep your eyes peeled, you might be lucky enough to catch some new releases from him in 2021 🤐. Rounding off Room 1, we’ll also have our very own Threads and Switch resident Tom Moon.
Keeping us busy in Room 2, we’ve got re:ni – NTS resident and purveyor of other-worldly bass and techno sounds. Joining her, we have iona; not bound to genre, catch her playing everything from UKG to Aphex Twin – as long as it’s high energy and psychedelic. Next up – crossfader extraordinaire, Tailor Jae. She describes herself as ‘genreless at heart,’ but her London upbringing shines through in her DJ sets. Last but not least, we welcome 404 Eros who’ll be getting things warmed up nicely. Offering a masterclass in experimental Funk, Acid bass lines, Breaks and Detroit House, the duo are true connoisseurs.
– If the event is postponed due to COVID, your ticket will move to the new date or you can get a refund.
– Tickets guarantee entry until 1AM. After then, we will let more non-ticketholders into the venue. If you arrive after 1AM, the venue may be full and you may have to queue one-in-one-out to enter.
