London’s Taking a Permanent Vacation
If there’s one thing we feel London’s nightlife has been missing for some time now, it’s a Permanent Vacation. It gives us great pleasure to welcome the Munich based record to London for the first time in 7 years.
Inspired by DFA Records and the Scandinavian disco scene, Tom Bioly and Benjamin Fröhlich launched Permanent Vacation in 2006 and announced the label as a place for cosmic house and disco. Both founders were tired of the minimal sound in Germany and wanted to create a home for something warmer. Little did they know that in no time at all, their music was going to drum up serious support.
In 2007, Tom and Ben walked into a club in Berlin to see Dixon playing Joakim’s remix of Camino Del Sol. This was the first time they’d heard their music in a club and only the label’s third release. Permanent Vacation immediately stood for a sound that contrasted from the norm in Berlin and has continued to put out quality release, after quality release, year on year since.
While the label has been instrumental in launching the careers of John Talabot, Todd Terje, Mano le Tough, Red Axes and more, it’s the new guard that we’re pleased to bring together for this showcase.
Fort Romeau steps up for headline duties after his debut Heaven & Earth EP, which featured four “Glistening house tracks that will brighten dance floors.” in the words of Resident Advisor.
Pional, has been one of the most prolific contributors to the label since it’s early days. He collaborated with John Talabot on Destiny and So Will Be Now (both on JT’s standout Fin album), has featured on Permanent Vacation’s Selected Works 3rd and 4th edition and let’s not forget his Miracle / Tempest release, which took dance floors by storm last year.
Perel is a star that we’ve been wanting to bring to London for some time. Her debut album, Hermetica on DFA, which featured the instantaneous hits Die Dimensions and Alles, flung her into spotlight last year. She debuted on Permanent Vacation’s 5th compilation with her disco infused ‘Angelika’. She will perform her Hybrid set at Corsica Studios.
New Jackson brings his nocturnal house jams with a ghostly disco hint to London for his debut show in the city. The Irish talent took to Permanent Vacation in 2014 with his ‘Having a Coke With You’ EP, which is still one of his most beautiful tracks to date. Having taken our ears to cosmic house heaven with ‘The Night Mail’ earlier this year, we’re delighted to have his Live show with us.
Lastly and most importantly is the brains and tastemaker of Permanent Vacation – Benjamin Fröhlich. Straight off the back of his debut album Amiata, which featured everything from dub hybrids to Italo, disco and boogie inspired tracks, 90’s spacey breakbeats and electro, to classic house. An album that showed the vast range of Ben’s musical taste. No wonder he’s been running one of the best labels out there for over a decade.
Labyrinth’s resident Nick Castle who’s opened for the likes of Âme, Gerd Janson, &ME b2b Rampa b2b Adam Port b2b Reznik and Adriatique this year also features.
Join us at Corsica Studios as we take London on a Permanent Vacation.
